*What is a carrier oil?
A carrier oil is used to dilute essential oils before they are applied to the skin. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. When an essential oil is diluted with a carrier oil, this slows down the absorption rate into the body. This is a great option for children or those with sensitive skin. Using a carrier oil also gives the essential oils a "time release" type of effect.
*What carrier oil should I use?
There are quite a few carrier oil options out there including coconut, olive, jojoba, sunflower, argan, grape seed, sweet almond, avocado, etc. Ideally, you want an organic, unrefined carrier oil. Do some homework on the traits of each one and make your own call. When applying oils to the face, jojoba or argan are great. For roll-on blends, we typically use grape seed or fractionated coconut oil. Use solid coconut oil for rubs that you want to store in a jar or other glass container.
